Understanding Grades of Korean Red Ginseng Roots: Heaven Grade, Earth Grade and Good Grade

The distinctions among the Heaven grade (Cheonsam), Earth grade (Jisam), and Good grade (Yangsam) in Korean Red Ginseng (Hongsam) are as follows: 

Korean Red Ginseng is categorized into various grades based on its texture, colour, and form, resulting in the classification of Heaven grade (Cheonsam), Earth grade (Jisam), and Good grade (Yangsam).

It's essential to highlight that this grading is exclusively conducted by nationally certified institutions such as Nonghyup in accordance with the Ginseng Industry Act. 

The criteria for the Heaven grade (Cheonsam) entail being the top 0.5% of premium Korean red ginseng. It is distinguished by impeccable quality concerning texture, color, and appearance, without any internal defects. 

Earth grade (Jisam) is categorized as the top 2% of Korean red ginseng, characterized by flawless quality in terms of texture, color, and appearance, without any internal defects. 

The Good grade (Yangsam) encompasses the top 10% of high-quality Korean red ginseng, meeting stringent criteria for texture, color, and appearance.
